One of the major projects of the Communications Committee is to put together the MBASA Cookbook each year. This year's cookbook came out looking fabulous thanks in large part to the efforts of Debi Tonks (our cookbook designer), Lulu Subervillle (the cover artist) and a host of editors (Makana Hansen, Becky Burt, and Elise Smith), not to mention all the spouses who submitted their delicious recipes.
In order to celebrate our cookbook's publication, we held a Cookbook Launch Party where spouses could sample some of the delicious recipes inside, pick up their copy of the cookbook and learn more about food and meal planning.
Now for a food trivia question for those who weren't able to attend:
In what state was the chocolate chip cookie invented (by accident) in 1930?
a. Massachusetts
b. New York
c. Vermont
d. Pennsylvania
If you answer A, then you would be correct. Ruth Graves Wakefield invented the chocolate chip cookie by accident at her family's Toll House Inn when she used semi-sweet chocolate chunks instead of baker's chocolate to make chocolate cookies. When the chocolate chunks did not melt (as she expected), the chocolate chip cookie was born.
Heidi Mayorga also demonstrated her amazing organizational skills and shared lots of tips and information about couponning and meal planning. You can access her lesson notes here.
Holly Smith also taught us about price matching and getting great deals on our groceries.
